estimate_taxes Estimate a federal refund or amount owed with ${defaultConstants.appName}'s tax calculator, the same calculation the calculator page runs. Pass the filing status, age, and whatever income, payments, deductions, dependents and students apply; leave out anything that doesn't. Returns the estimate with its income, deduction, credit and rate breakdown. It is an estimate, not a filed return: always pass on the disclaimer.
-
get_tax_calculator_limits The federal tax figures ${defaultConstants.appName}'s tax calculator uses for a tax year: brackets, standard deductions, the extra deduction for seniors, and credit limits, as the calculator service publishes them. Use it to explain an estimate from estimate_taxes. The shape of the figures comes from the calculator service.
-
find_tax_bracket Find the federal income tax bracket and the tax on a taxable income for the ${defaultConstants.appYear} tax year, using the brackets on ${defaultConstants.appName}'s tax bracket page. Pass the filing status and taxable income (after deductions). Returns the marginal rate, the tax before credits, and the bracket table for that status.
-
estimate_oregon_kicker Estimate the Oregon "kicker" credit, the same way ${defaultConstants.appName}'s kicker calculator page does. -
estimate_colorado_tabor Estimate the Colorado TABOR refund, the same way ${defaultConstants.appName}'s TABOR calculator page does, from the filing status and Colorado adjusted gross income. The refund amounts come from the page's table; married filing jointly gets the joint amounts. It is an estimate for people who file a Colorado return.

-
fill_privacy_choices Set the person's choice about ${defaultConstants.appName} sharing their personal information for targeted advertising, using the choice on this page: opt_out stops the sharing, opt_in allows it. The person signs in or creates an account there themselves.
-
sign_in Open ${defaultConstants.appName}'s sign-in site in this tab so the person can sign in and continue a ${defaultConstants.appYear} return they already started. -

The person answers the recovery questions there; recovery codes and the new password go into that page directly, never through this conversation.
-
open_account_page Open a page inside the person's ${defaultConstants.appName} account, in this tab, after they sign in: check their e-file status, contact customer support, print or download a return they filed, or refer a friend. The browser goes to the sign-in site first; the person signs in themselves.
-
start_free_file_return Open the sign-in site to start an IRS Free File return with ${defaultConstants.appName}, in this tab: a new ${defaultConstants.appYear} return or a free extension. Use it only for a person who qualifies for Free File; get_free_file_info lists who does. The person signs in or creates an account themselves. Returns an error while Free File is closed.

get_current_page Describe the ${defaultConstants.appName} page the person is on: its title, link and canonical link, its main heading and section headings, the help articles it shows and, on an article page, that article's id (ids to read in full), the sign-in and start-return buttons on it, and the tools available right now. Call it after arriving on a page or after open_page.
-
find_page Search ${defaultConstants.appName}'s own pages by topic, for example "1099-NEC", "Oregon", "extension" or "military", and return up to ${MAX_PAGE_RESULTS} matching pages with their titles, descriptions, paths and links. Open one in this tab with open_page. Help articles are searched separately, with the help search tool.
-
open_page Open another ${defaultConstants.appName} page in this tab by its path, for example "/pricing" or "/states/oregon", and return a description of the new page, as get_current_page does. get_key_dates The IRS dates on ${defaultConstants.appName}'s deadline page for the ${defaultConstants.appYear} tax year: when the IRS starts processing returns, the April filing deadline, and the extension deadline, plus today's date and whether each deadline has passed. irsStartsProcessing is null until the IRS announces it. search_faqs Search ${defaultConstants.appName}'s tax help library and return up to ${MAX_FAQ_RESULTS} matching articles with their ids, titles and links. Use it for questions about tax forms, credits, deductions, filing situations, and how the software handles them. Titles are not answers: read the article with get_faq before giving tax guidance. An empty results list means no article matched.
-
get_entry_links Returns links, without opening them: startNewReturn for a new ${defaultConstants.appYear} return, signInToContinue for a return already started, priorYearReturn to start a return for taxYear (default ${defaultConstants.appYear-1}), and accountRecovery for a lost username or password. Each opens the sign-in site, where the person signs in or creates an account themselves.
-

Search by form number ("1099-K", "Schedule E", "1040-NR") or a state name. supported and primaryMatch are the verdict for the form searched; relatedMatches are other forms with similar names, often from other jurisdictions, and are not the verdict.
-
get_free_file_info Who qualifies for the IRS Free File program delivered by ${defaultConstants.appName} for the ${defaultConstants.appYear} tax year, and the links a person uses to start or continue a Free File return or recover a lost username. These links lead to the sign-in site, where the person signs in themselves. While Free File is closed for the season it returns an error instead.
